Envoys from countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) visited the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) to study China’s agricultural S&T on Mar. 27. Tang Renjian, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, attended the event and delivered remarks.
Minister Tang pointed out that China’s advancement in S&T plays a crucial role in ensuring the steady growth momentum in China’s agriculture. While developing its own agriculture, China also insists on strengthening international cooperation in agricultural S&T and has in particular given a wide range of technical assistance to developing countries. As China and LAC countries constitute a community with a shared future featuring equality, mutual benefit and common development, agricultural cooperation between the two sides has yielded fruitful results and the LAC region has become the largest supplier of agri-products to China. On its new journey of accelerating agricultural modernization and building up its strength in agriculture, China is ready to work with the LAC region to further build consensus, strengthen policy dialogue, deepen S&T cooperation, and boost trade and investment. China welcomes all countries, including LAC countries, to participate in China's agricultural and rural development, and share benefits and opportunities.
Envoys from the LAC countries spoke highly of China's achievements in agricultural S&T and agreed with Minister Tang's suggestions on deepening China–LAC agricultural cooperation. They expressed their willingness to join China in continuously taking China–LAC agricultural cooperation to a new level.
Envoys from 20 LAC countries visited the new National Crop Gene Bank and the Innovation Park (North), and watched an exhibition of featured agri-products in CAAS.
Ma Youxiang, Vice Minister of MARA, presided over the event. Qiu Xiaoqi, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin America Affairs, Wu Kongming, President of CAAS, and Yang Zhenhai, Secretary of the Leading Party Group of CAAS, participated in related activities.
